Welcome to SHERMAN. Sherman is an open-source project aimed at providing robust workstation and software deployment funtionality, vis-a-vis Windows 2000's Remote Installation Services.

The Sherman project is comprised of three major areas:

  • the boot disk
  • the Win32 console client
  • the server

The boot disk is based on the Linux Router Project and has been modified to work with several network cards (currently NE2000 ISA and PCI, Tulip, 3Com 3C509x series and 3Com 3C59x series). The bootdisk determines which NIC is currently installed and loads the appropriate kernel module. Once booted, a single command will initiate the installation of Win9x onto the hard drive. Click here for a detailed description of the installation process.
